The Irwin EMC Foundation, Inc., has awarded 10 scholarships to area students. The scholarships are funded by monies from Operation Round Up, a voluntary program where Irwin EMC members choose to have their bills rounded up to the next highest dollar with the change placed in a foundation.
Criteria for selecting recipients for the Irwin EMC Foundation Touchstone Energy Scholarship were commitment to community, accountability, integrity and innovation. Preference is given to members who participate in Operation Round Up. (Not sure if you participate in Operation Round Up? Check your electric bill or call us at 229-468-7415.)
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this money to help students continue their education,” says Mary Lynn Bracewell, Irwin EMC Foundation chairperson. “The generosity of Irwin EMC members who participate in the Operation Round Up program has been overwhelming and it’s because of them that we are able to give this money away for such worthy causes.”
Each recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to further his or her education. The Foundation has awarded $204,000 in scholarship funds since the inception of the Operation Round Up program in April 2004. Applications will be available again in January 2024.
