Irwin EMC participates in Georgia EMC's Walter Harrison Scholarship program. This is a statewide competition among students representing EMCs across Georgia. To apply for the Walter Harrison Scholarship, you must reside in the household of an Irwin EMC member or employee.
The Walter Harrison Scholarship program was created in 1985 by the Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors to honor the late Walter Harrison, a pioneer in bringing electricity to rural areas of Georgia. The program is sponsored by local EMCs throughout the state and is coordinated by Georgia EMC. The number of scholarships awarded each year varies, depending on the interest earned on the scholarship fund.
The selection of Walter Harrison Scholarship recipients is based primarily on academic achievement and financial need. The scholarships, which are usually worth $1,000, may be used for undergraduate studies at any two-year or four-year accredited college, university or vocational school in the state of Georgia.
Contact David Martin at (229) 468-2313 for more information. Applications are due January 26, 2024.
